How do I get in to JGEMS?
JGEMS is a public charter school in the Salem Keizer school district. All students in the Salem Keizer 24J district are invited to apply . All valid entries are entered into a lottery drawing to be held at a pre-selected date. Check the school calendar for specific details. Siblings of current 6th and 7th graders are granted waivers from the lottery process. After waivers have been granted and the lottery conducted, all applicants will be placed on a list in order of their lottery draw. The first full class of students (currently 33) will become the incoming 6th grade, the remainder of names will be placed on a waiting list. The list will be kept for two years, and students will be called, in order, if and when an opening in their grade occurs.
The list will be submitted to Salem Keizer School District Student Services to compare the list of applicants with those applicants who may have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). If a student with an IEP accepts a position at JGEMS the student’s IEP team will need to determine whether the student’s IEP can be implemented at JGEMS. If the student's IEP team determines the level of services on the student’s IEP cannot be implemented at JGEMS, the IEP team will recommend that the student not be admitted to JGEMS due to inappropriate placement. Therefore, that student will not be accepted until the IEP team deems placement is appropriate. At that time, the student will be placed first on the waiting list and admitted if a vacancy in that grade becomes available.
